Medtronic Cease Sales Of Spirit Fidelis

The Medical technology firm, Medtronic, has suspended sales of a component used in its implantable devices to treat abnormal heart rhythms. The Spirit Fidelis leads link the heart to an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), which is used to shock a racing heartbeat back to normal rhythm. There is concern over the use of the product.

Approximately 268,000 leads have been implanted worldwide and Medtronic are contacting up to 13,000 physicians in connection with their patients.
